Theme: Environmental Sustainability at Home

The Class V Orientation Programme of ONGC Public School, Neravy – Karaikal, was conducted on Saturday, 22 August 2026 at 9:30 a.m. with the theme “Environmental Sustainability at Home.” The programme was attended by 85 students and 70 parents. The Chief Guest and resource person for the programme was Sri. Madhivanan, Retired Headmaster.

The session focused on creating awareness among students and parents about the importance of environmental responsibility and the practical choices that families can adopt in their daily lives. The programme emphasized the need to conserve natural resources and develop sustainable habits beginning at home.

The key messages of the programme included saving water, conserving energy, reducing waste, reducing the use of plastic, and reusing materials. Participants were encouraged to use water wisely, switch off electrical appliances when not required, segregate and dispose of waste responsibly, avoid single-use plastics, and prefer reusable bottles, cups and containers. The programme also stressed that eco-friendly practices should become a regular family habit.

The orientation provided an opportunity for parents and students to understand that environmental protection is not limited to large-scale initiatives but can begin with simple and responsible actions at home. The central message was that small changes in everyday family practices can contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.

Feedback from Parents and Students

The feedback received from the participants was largely positive. Participants described the programme as informative, useful and relevant, and appreciated the opportunity to learn new and practical ideas. Several responses highlighted the importance of environmental protection in the present situation and the need to safeguard children and future generations. The participants also expressed concern about the harmful effects of plastic and the need to adopt safer and more sustainable practices.

Conclusion

The Class V Orientation Programme successfully promoted awareness of environmental responsibility among students and parents. It reinforced the idea that sustainable living begins with conscious choices at the family level. The programme served as a meaningful initiative to encourage students and parents to conserve resources, reduce waste and plastic use, and adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
